Youth Action (NI) is a six-storey arts and resource centre in Belfast city centre, where youth and community groups meet, socialise and participate in performance arts, drama workshops, I.T. and craftwork classes. Youth Action (NI) was named as a Civic Trust Award 2008 winner. This UK-wide award recognises projects of the highest quality design that have provided a positive cultural, social and economic contribution to the local community.
Facilities in the 2,100m2 building include a foyer, reception, learning resource centre, I.T/video editing workshops and a 12m x 13m auditorium for drama productions including 154 removable seats on a tiered system. Other facilities include activity rooms, changing rooms, offices, catering facilities, staff rooms, storage and plant rooms.
The building was constructed with structural steel frame on piled foundations with infill masonry cavity walling and precast floor slabs to the upper floors. The building envelope was a combination of a Trocal flat roof, Portland natural stone cladding panels, specialist coloured render and PPC aluminium glazing including horizontal louvres. A complete internal fit-out was carried out under the contract.
