MSM Contracts were awarded the contract to construct a standalone 5,500m2 B&Q retail warehouse unit and a 1,000m2 retail unit for Pets at Home. This project required major civil engineering works including construction of a 6m high Anda-Crib retaining wall, amendments to the existing roads and construction of new access roads and service yards.

The entire site footprint, approximately 24,000m2, was identified as having poor soil quality, consequently, before construction works commenced, vibro compaction works were carried out throughout the site. Both the B&Q retail warehouse and the Pets at Home retail unit are constructed with in-situ power floated concrete floors laid to very strict tolerances as per the respective clients’ specifications. The combined total of structural steelwork erected on both projects is in excess of 250 tonnes. The building envelopes are a combination of insulated roof and wall panels, facing brick and PPC aluminium glazing to the front facades. External works involved laying surface car parking (10,000m2), “Tegula Setts” concrete paving (1,300m2) and erecting secure perimeter fencing.
