The original Tudor-style Clare Lodge, constructed in 1894, was a prominent landmark on Newcastle’s promenade for over a century and provided seaside accommodation for disadvantaged families, the elderly and persons living with a disability through the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Unfortunately, the building had become run down and unfit for purpose. Consequently, following a tender process, MSM were awarded the contract to redevelop Clare Lodge into a modern, up-to-date holiday centre.

The new Clare Lodge has a lounge, dining room, kitchen and 19nr private guest rooms with en-suite bathrooms, including 15nr twin rooms and 4nr family rooms. An independent cafe unit fronting onto Main Street is incorporated at ground level. Similar to the original building, the new Clare Lodge offers short respite breaks to disadvantaged individuals, families and to persons in need of a relaxing and safe environment in this picturesque setting.

Construction works involved CFA piling operations, structural steelwork frame, precast slabs & staircases, concrete roof tiling, Trocal roof coverings, zinc cladding to dormers, coloured render and ppc aluminium glazing. Interior fit-out works, including M&E and lift services were completed. External works involved forming a 12-space car park, laying paved areas and constructing boundary walls.
