Works commenced on 26 January 2015 to redevelop existing council-owned garages into a new events building and outdoor space at Castle Hill, Dungannon for Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council. Castle Hill is located within a ‘Scheduled Monument’ area and these works are being carried out close to the Knox-Hannington towers, the remnants of an 18th century private residence.

G M Design Associates are the project architects with works due for completion during late summer 2015.

The existing single-storey garages will be refurbished to provide an indoor events space. A three-storey side extension will provide ground floor welfare accommodation with exhibition space at first and second floor levels. A single-storey extension to the opposite end will accommodate a catering kitchen, storage rooms, staff facilities and plant rooms. The extensions will be constructed using the Kingspan TEK Structural Insulated Panel Wall System and the building will be externally cladded with a hardwood timber weatherboarding. High level glazing will be installed to provide views over the Castle Hill grounds and the surrounding countryside.

A circular tensile fabric event space structure over a steelwork frame will extend outwards from the front elevation over a granite paved area. This canopy will have demountable side curtains and will stand approximately 8m high and 32m diameter.
